Why is Tammy Abraham wearing a mask? Many have asked this on Google as the Roma No.9 takes on the form of Batman.
The England international is part of the squad to face RB Salzburg in the Europa League Round of 32 tonight as Roma attempt to overturn a 1-0 deficit suffered in the first leg.
Training images have shown the striker wearing a mask, causing confusion amongst many supporters.
So, why is Abraham wearing a mask? Let’s take a look…
Why is Tammy Abraham wearing a mask?
Well, the 25-year-old suffered an injury to his eye in Roma’s 1-0 win over Hellas Verona on Sunday at the Stadio Olimpico.
As a result, he is only fit enough to start on the bench for Roma tonight, although if he comes on at any stage, he is expected to be wearing the protective gear – which Napoli No.9 Victor Osimhen also uses.
Abraham was only able to play 15 minutes against Hellas Verona before suffering a strong blow to his left eye after a collision with teammate Gianluca Mancini.
The London-born striker required six stitches immediately after the incident, and was forced to leave the pitch as Andrea Belotti was brought on by José Mourinho to replace him.

As detailed by the Roma Press, Abraham was not expected to be available at all for Roma in their Europa League Round of 32 clash against RB Salzburg on Thursday evening.
However, the Chelsea academy graduate was seen wearing a protective eye mask at Roma’s Trigoria training ground as he attempted to return ahead of schedule and help the Italian giants reach the Round of 16.
Fortunately for Mourinho and Roma, Abraham is comfortable enough to take a place on the bench tonight just days after suffering the eye injury, which represents a huge boost for the Serie A side, to say the least.
Abraham is an important player for Roma, scoring seven goals while also providing five assists in all competitions so far this season across 31 appearances.
Hopefully, the 6ft 3in frontman can follow in Osimhen’s footsteps and become a goalscoring machine while wearing the protective mask – Roma will certainly hope he can play some minutes as they attempt to reach the Europa League Round of 16.
