A report from the Daily Mail claims that Toffees ace Ross Barkley broke down during training today with a potential hamstring problem, and whilst that may seem like bad news for Spurs in their hopes of signing him, it could actually end up working in their favour.
Tottenham have been linked with a move for the 23-year-old ace all summer long, with the Telegraph suggesting that £25 million could be enough to get a deal for the England international over the line.
Daniel Levy has become renowned for his frugal approach to transfers throughout his time in the game, however, and that could very well be the reason behind a lack of progress in the transfer saga.
The latest report from the Daily Mail, however, regarding Barkley’s potential hamstring problem might just work in the Lilywhites’ favour.
The Englishman’s injury could very well drag out the transfer even further still, enabling Spurs to leave it until the very last minute of the transfer window until making a move for him, for what will then be a cut price deal.
Another potential boost for Tottenham is the fact that other potentially interested parties could be put off by Barkley’s reported fitness concerns, leaving the path clear for the north London outfit to make their move.
If Levy and co have any chance whatsoever of earning themselves some kind of bargain, they will almost certainly jump at it, and Barkley’s reported injury could very well present them with precisely that opportunity.
