Monaco are reportedly leading the chase for Youri Tielemans, meaning Everton and Tottenham Hotspur could miss out on Europe’s brightest midfield talent.
Everton and Tottenham Hotspur possess two of Europe’s most progressive managers renowned for their ability to develop young talent. But it still appears that Youri Tielemens would make the right call choosing France over the Premier League.
The Sun claim that the Belgian wonderkid Youri Tielemans is being targeted by Ligue 1 leaders Monaco after taking his already impressive game to a whole new level this season. He’s scored a career best 18 goals from midfield for Anderlecht while also laying on another eleven assists.
As such, it’s no surprise that one of Europe’s most exciting teenagers appears finally ready to make the next step this summer. Yet, the 19-year-old could be better served turning his back on the Premier League duo.
Tielemans stated back in February that a club of Everton’s stature would be the ideal destination to progress his career and ensure he would obtain regular game time, as reported by the International Business Times. And the likes of Tom Davies and Mason Holgate would surely tell the Belgian that manager Ronald Koeman has a knack for getting the best out of his young players.
Furthermore, the Daily Mail claimed that Tottenham have scouted Tielemans on a number of occasions with manager Mauricio Pochettino hoping to add another rising star to Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Harry Winks.
Yet, while Ligue 1 may not be the most glamourous or high-profile environment, choosing the principality over the Premier League could be the making of Tielemans.
After all, Monaco’s goal-laden season has not been inspired by big-money, marquee signings but a collection of Europe’s brightest talents.
From teen sensation Kylian Mbappe to playmaker Thomas Lemar, the tenacious midfield duo of Fabinho and Tiemoue Bakayoko and flying full-backs Benjamin Mendy and Djibril Sidibe, Monaco’s run to the Champions League quarter-finals is a reward for their ability to identify and improve Europe’s most exciting youngsters.
And Tielemans would fit right in at the Stade Louis II.
