Tottenham battling to stop Celtic signing Reo Griffiths this summer, here’s why Rangers should be looking to secure the player’s services next term.
Tottenham Hotspur are expected to face serious interest for their striking prodigy Reo Griffiths in the coming days from Scottish champions Celtic, according to football.london, but Tottenham’s academy graduate would be better served at Rangers next term.
17-year-old Griffiths bagged a seriously impressive 23 goals in 18 games for Spurs at youth level, notably netting four in his side’s 9-0 thrashing of north London rivals Arsenal, and now looks ready for the first big-step of his career.
Brendan Rodgers has become renowned for developing young talent in recent years – such as Moussa Dembele, Kieran Tierney and Raheem Sterling – and he would undoubtedly do well with the U18 England striker.
However, Steven Gerrard should seriously be considering moving in on any potential deal.
There’s no doubting that the Liverpool icon is after a marquee striker this summer, having been linked to Dominic Solanke, as well as targetting other Reds attackers such as Harry Wilson and most recently Ben Woodburn (The Express), and Griffiths would represent great business at Ibrox.
It would also present a big opportunity for the player too, who would be guaranteed a fair amount of first-team football with the Light Blues, as they currently have no outstanding striker at the club.
At Celtic, Griffiths would have to compete with the likes of Moussa Dembele and Leigh Griffiths and appearances would be few and far between.
A permanent deal would be a push for the Gers, but Tottenham would surely be interested in the possibility of loaning Griffiths out for a season or two to gain first-team experience.
If bitter rivals Celtic land his signature, Rangers will almost certainly regret not trying to bring him to Ibrox.
