Rangers have been linked with signing two strikers.

Steven Gerrard is unveiled as the new manager of Rangers football Club at Ibrox Stadium on May 4, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Steven Gerrard’s Rangers have been linked with signing two strikers over the past couple of days.

The two options could not be more different.

The Daily Record links Rangers with a permanent move for Croatian striker Mirko Maric.

The Herald claims Rangers are considering a loan offer for Watford’s Andre Gray.

Maric would be a signing for the future, an investment, especially at the £3 million quoted.

Gray would come in on high wages, but would be the better player.

He was after all linked with a £20 million transfer in the summer of 2017, in a Mirror report.

The problem for Rangers is that Gray would join Defoe on loan, and it would be a case of the Gers going ‘all in’ to win the title next season.

It would be ambitious, but what if it fails.

By the summer of 2020, Rangers would be left with neither.

If they sign Maric, then when Defoe’s loan finishes, they will have a striker ready to contribute, rather than having to scramble around for solutions.

Their decision will depend on just how highly they rate Maric.
