This came after a blog site devoted to FC Porto questioned unspecified payments between Benfica and Belenenses back in 2015, during a time where Benfica beat their opponents eight times in a row.

The allegations were that this payment was improper and this has been demonstrated to be inaccurate, Hugo Gil reports.

The payments of several hundreds of thousands, Record reported, were actually shown to be separate payments for the transfer of Dalcio from Belenenses to Benfica.

A fuss and controversy over nothing, serving if only to remind Benfica fans that Dalcio is still on their books.

Dalcio has not yet lived up to Benfica’s hopes, playing with their B team, and is currently on loan at Ibrox.

A poor first half of his loan spell has led to questions whether Dalcio could be sent back to Benfica, and certainly there is very little clamour among Rangers fans for him to be given first team opportunities.

For now he remains with Rangers, and was pictured on their training camp in Florida yesterday.

Whether there is a place for him on the sports pages for positive reasons for Rangers and Benfica remains to be seen.
