Tottenham Hotspur star Eric Dier is targeting the under-21 Euros next year as a valuable experience for him.

Tottenham Hotspur youngster Eric Dier is looking to use the occasion of next summer’s under-21 European Championship to his advantage.

Dier has made a superb start to life at Spurs following a move from Sporting Lisbon earlier in the summer and is likely to feature for the England under-21 side this evening against Croatia.

England head into the second leg of their play-off game against the Croats 2-1 up following the first leg.

“It’s good playing all of these games now, but we do it to try and play in the tournament, which is the main thing. Any tournament is great for spirit, so going to the under-21 Euros would be great for us,” Dier told the FA website.

“You learn a lot in tournament football so to have that experience would be good for us.”

From a Spurs point of view Mauricio Pochettino will firstly be delighted with Dier’s performances for the England under-21 side and will secondly, be delighted with his comments.

His performances have been consistent so far this season and while he’s still learning, he’s been able to replicate his form from the Premier League across to an international setting.

Pochettino would have been looking for two things from his Spurs players away with the under-21 side.

He’ll be hoping they stay injury free but he should also be delighted with the ambition Dier is showing and his forward thinking to want to go and represent England at a major international tournament.

It’s now down to him to cash in when he’s called upon by Gareth Southgate and to make sure that he doesn’t make any errors this evening, which could threaten England’s place at the tournament next year.
