Boston Red Sox legend Pedro Martinez is a fan of Argentina’s Lionel Messi.

Argentina are en route to becoming back-to-back World Cup champions as they are just three games away from this historic achievement.

Next up, Lionel Messi’s team will face off against Switzerland in the quarterfinals of the tournament. Evidently, Argentina will be the heavy favorites to win the clash.

Speaking of the team’s fandom, Boston Red Sox legend Pedro Martinez recently shared his two cents on Messi.

Pedro Martinez goes gaga over Lionel Messi

On a recent episode of the Men in Blazers TV program, Martinez couldn’t contain his excitement about meeting Leo Messi at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

“I got to meet Messi. So, I’m like, ‘Oh!’ I’m always rooting for Messi because he was such a gentleman when he met me,” Martinez said.

The Red Sox legend added, “He stopped by, he gave me a hug, he stopped to have a little conversation with me. So, no bigger fan than Pedro for Messi. I love Messi.”

Martinez had a small, yet meaningful interaction with arguably the greatest soccer player of all time. It wasn’t Messi’s achievements on the field that made Martinez a fan.

Instead, it was his humble personality that caught the former Red Sox pitcher’s attention. At the end of the day, the 39-year-old has gained a lifelong fan in the ex-MLB star.
