Speaking on Sky Sports News (31/8/21 10:10PM), Arsenal legend Paul Merson has been speaking about Arsenal’s transfer business and the fact they didn’t sign Danny Ings.

The Gunners weren’t even linked with Ings this summer as the former Southampton man completed a move to Aston Villa, but Merson believes he’s exactly the type of player his former club should’ve been bringing in.

What’s been said?

Merson was speaking about Arsenal’s rivals this season before making his point about Ings.

“Look at Everton with Rafa now, they’re going to be hard to beat, West Ham look decent, it’s not as easy as it used to be, it’s not a free ride anymore where you go, top four, five or six. You look at Aston Villa they’ve got Danny Ings, why have Arsenal not got Danny Ings? Why are they not going buying Danny Ings. I worry about the recruitment, I worry about that,” Merson said.

Spot on

Merson isn’t wrong when he says that Arsenal should’ve been going after Ings.

As we’ve already seen at Villa this season, the striker is one of the best finishers in the Premier League, and the Gunners need a player like that.

Yes, they have Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, but those two have been out of sorts for the past 12 months, and Lacazette is likely to leave when his contract is up.

Ings is a player Arsenal should have had a look at.
