Emmanuel Acho believes Patrick Mahomes can equal Tom Brady’s Super Bowl ring count, but insists he will never surpass him as the greatest quarterback of all time.
The former NFL linebacker turned analyst made the case that greatness is about more than championships alone, pointing directly to Brady’s head-to-head dominance over Mahomes on the biggest stage.
Emmanuel Acho says Patrick Mahomes can never match Tom Brady’s NFL legacy

Emmanuel Acho drew a sharp distinction between titles and legacy when comparing the two quarterbacks during an appearance on the SPEAKEASY podcast.
“Patrick Mahomes can catch Tom Brady in rings. But nobody can catch Tom Brady in greatness, because he was first…
“Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes met twice, not once, twice. Tom Brady met Patrick Mahomes when Tom Brady was old, and beat him,” Acho said.
Acho’s argument hinges on timing and narrative. Brady, already deep into his career, defeated Mahomes in the AFC Championship Game following the 2018 season. He then repeated the feat in Super Bowl LV after the 2020 campaign, denying Mahomes another title and reinforcing his own legacy.
For Acho, those moments matter as much as ring totals. Brady did not merely build a resume in isolation, he directly beat the quarterback now chasing him.
Acho points to Brady’s Super Bowl wins over Mahomes
Acho doubled down by emphasising the biggest stage of all.
“He beat Patrick Mahomes and won a Super Bowl. Then Tom Brady met Patrick Mahomes in the Super Bowl and beat him again,” Acho added.
The Super Bowl LV clash remains central to the debate. Brady, at age 43, led the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to a 31-9 victory over Mahomes’ Kansas City Chiefs. That win gave Brady his seventh ring and left Mahomes searching for redemption in future seasons.
While Mahomes still has time to add to his championship tally, Acho’s position is clear. Matching Brady in numbers may be possible, but surpassing the narrative of being first and winning head to head, in his view, is a different challenge entirely.
