Celtic have confirmed that Ryan Christie has left the club on a permanent deal to Championship side AFC Bournemouth.

The Hoops announced on their official Twitter account that the 26-year-old midfielder had departed for the Cherries. Indeed, Christie was a key player to Celtic’s back-to-back domestic trebles.

The Scottish international’s deal with Celtic was due to expire next January. Talks of a new contract failed to get off the ground, as well.

Many had believed that Christie would depart Scotland as a free agent during the winter, but Bournemouth have swooped in on deadline day to secure the signing.

As reported by Sky Sports News, Scott Parker’s side paid just £2.5m for the Scottish international. Premier League side Burnley were also keen on Christie, but Bournemouth won the race for the midfielder.

Indeed, Christie leaving seemed inevitable for Celtic supporters. But fans on social media were stunned that the midfielder joined Bournemouth of all clubs on deadline day.
