Arsene Wenger has been quoted by Football Daily as saying that Arsenal could fight Manchester City for the Premier League title this season – stating that no team is “completely dominating” the Premier League as things stand.

Manchester City would look to argue that. They remain unbeaten in the Premier League with four wins and two draws from six matches – and Erling Haaland has hit the ground running. The big Norwegian already has 12 goals in eight.

Arsenal still sit top, winning their opening five games but losing to Manchester United. Tottenham are in third, on level points with Manchester City – also winning four and drawing two. Liverpool are down in seventh, winning only twice.

Arsenal legend Wenger was asked about how he thinks Arsenal will do this season, under Mikel Arteta. He says that the Gunners have the potential to finish in the top four, and given there are no dominating sides, compete for the title.

“This season, there is no completely dominating team. Arsenal has a chance because the potential is there. Hopefully, they can do it. At least to be in the top four. Why not, I don’t think you can rule out they can fight for the title.”

Wenger: Arsenal could fight Manchester City for the Premier League title

Do Arsenal really stand a chance? Manchester City fans would argue that even at this early stage, they are a better side than they were last year, with Haaland up top. However, others will point to their draws against Villa and Newcastle.

Last season, City dropped just 21 points after 38 games. This season, they have already dropped four in six. Perhaps, then, Manchester City may see their points total go down from the dizzying 93 they picked up last season.

Does that give Arsenal the potential to fight for a place? The Gunners totalled 69 last season and have certainly improved. But it is all about how they cope with competing in the Europa League alongside a potential title fight.
