Don Hutchison suggested on Premier League Productions that Tottenham Hotspur head coach Jose Mourinho should make more use of Lucas Moura and Gareth Bale.
The former Liverpool midfielder believes that wingers such as Lucas and Bale will score goals.
Hutchison made the comments in the wake of Tottenham losing to Leicester City in the Premier League at the weekend.
It was Spurs’ second successive loss in the league following the defeat to defending Premier League champions Liverpool last week.
Hutchison said on Premier League Productions: “When you look at the players who are not playing for Tottenham and you go, ‘Who is going to score if Kane and Son don’t score?’
“Hojbjerg is not going to score, Sissoko is not going to score, Lo Celso is not going to score, Bergwijn is not gong to score, and you have got Lucas Moura and Gareth Bale sitting on the bench. So why not sacrifice Lo Celso or a Bergwijn for a Bale or a Moura and be more attacking?”
Being more adventurous?
Tottenham are not exactly a team who score goals for fun – although it must be noted that they have found the back of the net 25 times in 14 league games this season – but one suspects that Mourinho would want to win matches by whatever means possible.
While it would be nice of Spurs to be more adventurous given the quality of attacking players they have – Harry Kane, Bale, Lucas and Son Heung-min are some of the best players in the Premier League – Mourinho’s way is working at the moment.
True, Tottenham have lost their past two matches in the league, but they still remain in the race for the Premier League title and every team has a bad week or two.
