Peter Crouch has written in The Daily Mail that Leeds United can challenge for the European places in the Premier League table this season.

The former Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool striker believes that with no European football for Leeds next season, Marcelo Bielsa’s side could properly attack the top six.

When asked whether Leeds can become European contenders, Crouch said, as quoted in The Daily Mail: “Why not, Forg? I love watching Leeds play and they were superb on Saturday, fully deserving their win over Tottenham.

“They are only going to get better with experience and I hope they sort out manager Marcelo Bielsa’s future quickly and he signs a contract extension.

“What might work in their favour is being out of Europe. While others have packed schedules, Leeds can properly attack the top six. They have shown they are capable of going head-to-head with the best sides. It is all in front of them.”

Leeds have been superb this season. This is the first time that they have played in the Premier League since 2004, and Bielsa’s side have been simply stunning.

The Whites also have a very good record against the ‘Big Six’ sides at Elland Road this season.

However, if Leeds are to challenge for the top six, then they have to invest in the squad.

For example, the Whites do not have a quality specialised left-back and have used Stuart Dallas and Ezgjan Alioski in that position. There is also no like-for-like replacement for striker Patrick Bamford in the team.

The likes of Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal will come back stronger next season, and Everton and West Ham United will also be looking to build on their success from this campaign.
