Aliou Traore has admitted that he might have to leave Manchester United in search of first-team football with Celtic and Rangers both keen on the midfielder, while speaking to RMC Sport.
With Ole Gunnar Solskjaer putting together undoubtedly the most talented United midfield since the days of Paul Scholes and Michael Carrick, the 19-year-old Frenchman has little chance of securing a starting berth at Old Trafford any time soon.
Youth coach Nicky Butt described Traore as a ‘tremendously gifted’ footballer, while some have suggested that he shares a few similarities with his World Cup winning compatriot Paul Pogba.
Given that Traore has not been included in a single first-team squad by Solskjaer this season, the former PSG teen looks set to follow in the footsteps of Angel Gomes rather than Mason Greenwood with a year left on his contract.
“I would like to start as a pro,” said Traore, an all-action attacking midfielder renowned for his balletic skill and fearsome power.
“I hope it will be in Manchester, otherwise why not go and find playing time elsewhere?
“I only have one year of contract left so yes, I’m not closing the door. But if I’m leaving, it’s for a professional group.
“I will be listening to opportunities. Above all, I want to be part of a project that has meaning for me, a coherent project for the rest of my career.”
France Football reported in June that both Celtic and Rangers have shown an interest in signing Traore.
While the Glasgow giants are not short of talented central midfielders themselves, at least this 19-year-old would not have to challenge a Pogba or a Bruno Fernandes north of the border.
