Tanguy Ndombele has stated that he wants to win the Europa League with Lyon after departing Tottenham on transfer deadline day.

The 25-year-old shared that he has to show ‘certain things’ at the Ligue 1 side after leaving Spurs on a loan deal, as quoted by the Daily Star.

In north London, despite being a club-record transfer from Lyon, Ndombele just found life difficult in the Premier League.

Mauricio Pochettino, Jose Mourinho, Ryan Mason, Nuno Espirito Santo and Antonio Conte couldn’t get the absolute best out of the ball-carrying midfielder.

Therefore, it wasn’t a surprise that he did leave the club on a loan deal on deadline day and he is targeting big things upon his return to his homeland.

“I have to show certain things,” said Ndombele. “Like I said I didn’t play for Tottenham. I know that I am expected at the turn.

“A successful loan would be that I do well, finish in the top three, and why not win the European Cup?”

Lyon are in the knockout stages of the Europa League after topping their group which contained Scottish Premiership champions Rangers.

It’s going to be interesting to see how Ndombele fairs in his second stint at Lyon and whether he can turn his fortunes around.

If Ndombele does work his magic, then the Europa League hopefuls have the chance to make the deal permanent.

In truth, those in the Spurs boardroom are hoping to recoup as much money as possible from his likely sale in the summer because they are going to take a massive financial hit if they don’t.
