Whilst many are still hoping for a miracle at Molineux this year, the real test will come next season for new manager Paul Lambert.

Wolverhampton Wanderers fans have been through a tough time as of late, and it seems set to continue given how close they are to the drop in the Championship. Alot of pressure has been put on the shoulders of new boss Paul Lambert given his past successes with Norwich in addition to a strong financial backing, but this year will not be the real test for the Scot.

Given the position Wolves were left in when he took charge, the remainder of this campaign will not be a fair indication of Lambert’s abilities. With the lack of quality down the bottom of the division, the club should easily be able to pull away from danger in the coming months. However, that achievement should not define the former Villa boss.

Because next year will provide a clean slate. A full 46-game season awaits Lambert and given how much time he would have had to nurture the squad, expectations will be higher than ever.

Some people will still look towards this year and feel as if a promotion push is possible, and they may be right, but Lambert’s task is simple from now until May – steady the ship. Get this historic club back on track and focus on providing stability once again at Molineux.
