According to a report in the Chronicle, Newcastle United are set to step up their chase of an attacking midfielder in the coming weeks.

Rafael Benitez has made adding creativity to his squad one of his top priorities in the summer transfer window.

Newcastle are now thought to be hunting a new playmaker, as they look to kick-start their summer spending.

And one player who should come on to Newcastle’s radar is Manchester City’s Samir Nasri.

City are said to be willing to allow Nasri to leave for just £12 million (The Sun), as they are keen to offload the Frenchman.

Nasri was loaned out to Sevilla last term, but City are now eager to sell him permanently.

For just £12 million, Nasri looks like he could be a potential bargain, and he would certainly add quality to Benitez’s attacking options.

Nasri is a proven Premier League star, having represented both City and Arsenal.

And Newcastle should seriously be considering making a move for a player of the 29-year-old’s ability, given his relatively cheap availability.
