Newcastle United could have a big transfer budget available this summer if their proposed takeover finally gets the green light.

But amid the new big money transfer options, Newcastle must look for bargains too.

One player who would fit the bill is Valencia centre-back Ezequiel Garay.

Garay will become a free agent at the end of this month when his four-year deal at Los Che expires.

The uncompromising and skilful centre-back would be a worthy addition to Newcastle’s squad.

Garay is now 33-years-old and is edging towards the final years of his career.

Yet he can still be a valuable addition for a Newcastle team which will be looking to compete in the top half of the Premier League table next season.

Garay has plenty of experience, having played as a starter in the 2014 World Cup final for Argentina.

He has won titles in Portugal with Benfica and in Russia with Zenit. More recently he helped Valencia win the Copa del Rey in 2019.

Garay is the type of target who Newcastle could sign as a squad player, with the hope he could start 20-30 games a season.

Just a year ago Garay was playing for Valencia in the Champions League.

His experience could rub off on younger players like Jamaal Lascelles, and help the club captain out.

To balance out potentially more expensive deals, this could be an astute bargain for Newcastle if they choose to pursue the defender.
