A new report over the future Luke Shaw seems to rule him out of contention for a move to Tottenham Hotspur.
Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has had his eye on left-back Luke Shaw amid an uncertain future under Jose Mourinho at Manchester United (The Sun).
Pochettino worked with Shaw at Southampton, and the Argentine manager reportedly wants to bring the 23-year-old England international to Spurs.
The left-back’s contract is up in the summer which casts his immediate future in the spotlight.
But after turning his Red Devils career around this season it now appears Shaw is set to sign a new contract at Old Trafford (BBC Sport), scuppering Pochettino’s hopes of luring the 23-year-old to Tottenham.
Shaw is a hugely talented and promising young left-back, and the England international has been playing so well for United so far this season that he has totally changed Mourinho’s tune.
There is no doubt the former Southampton man would be a great signing for Tottenham in long term, especially on a free transfer or even cut price fee in January.
Missing out on Shaw could actually turn out to be good news for Spurs, though, as it increases the likelihood that Danny Rose will remain at the club long-term.
Rose himself has been linked with Manchester United in the recent past (The Guardian) and at one stage it looked as if the flying fullback might leave Spurs.
Certainly signing Shaw would have put Rose’s future in serious doubt as he would undoubtedly have been second choice.
At 28 Rose himself has several years left at the top level.
In the short-term Rose must rediscover his fitness after being rested for Tottenham’s Champions League game against Barcelona and picked up an injury which saw him withdraw from England duty
“Hopefully, it’s nothing too serious,” Rose said, as reported by Football London.
