Tottenham Hotspur are working on a move for Tanguy Ndombele.

Tottenham Hotspur are hoping to tie up a move for Tanguy Ndombele, after Sky Sports reported a fee was agreed earlier this week.

Landing the Frenchman would solve a gap in midfield, vacated by Mousa Dembele who was sold in January.

The move would do even more than that. Spending more than £60 million would help signify Tottenham’s status as one of Europe’s biggest clubs.

It would also go a long way to convincing Mauricio Pochettino to stay at the club a long time.

Pochettino signed a five-year contract in 2018, but last season he sounded exasperated at times.

He gave a number of interviews through the season, bemoaning Tottenham’s inability to compete with Liverpool and Manchester City in the transfer market.

Signing Ndombele would be the end of that.

Prior to the Champions League final, Pochettino also made some odd comments about his future.

He told The Guardian: “If you want to expect the same from us as from Liverpool, the Manchester clubs and Chelsea, give me different tools to work with. If not and I see people working in the same way in the future, and I’m going to be this guy, I am the most stupid person to work.”

Chairman Daniel Levy appears to have talked Pochettino into sticking around with his promises about the club’s activity.

Now he needs to walk the walk.

A deal for Ndombele is nearly done, and it would prove to Pochettino that Tottenham can match his ambition. That’s why it’s so important.
