Mike Tyson once admitted he felt disrespected by Michael Jackson during their first-ever meeting, despite being at the peak of his boxing dominance at the time.

The former heavyweight champion shared the story years later, revealing how a brief interaction at a concert left him convinced the King of Pop had brushed him off.

What followed was a decade-long misunderstanding that Tyson would not forget.

Mike Tyson recalls feeling disrespected by Michael Jackson

In a story he later revisited publicly via his official X account, Tyson said “Somebody said Michael’s in town. So, we went to the concert. We come into the arena and we’re walking down the aisle and Dom goes down like this to Mike, Mike sees him coming down, he goes like this and Mike goes like this.

Tyson added: “So, I go like this, and Mike put his hand down. I’m saying to myself, ‘I know he didn’t see me. I know he didn’t diss me. He wouldn’t do that, right?’ So we went in the back, and Michael’s by himself.

“… I walk up to him and he looks at me and says, ‘I know you from somewhere, where do I know you from?’ I’m at the top of my game, I just beat Michael Spinks. I was getting ready to say something, but I said, ‘No, I’m just a fan of yours, sir, thank you.’”

At the time, Tyson had just defeated Michael Spinks and was considered the most feared fighter on the planet.

Yet Jackson’s reaction left him questioning whether the snub was intentional or simply a misunderstanding.

Mike Tyson refused to see Michael Jackson years later

The perceived slight stayed with Tyson for years, influencing how he reacted when another opportunity to meet Jackson arose.

He explained, “10 years go by, probably more. My friend said, ‘Well, I’m going to see Michael. I’m gonna produce some songs for him.’ So, he goes down there and he calls me back, he said, ‘Hey, man, wanna come out with me?’

“I said, ‘No, f___ that. He disrespected me. He played me, man. F___ that m_____f_____.’ He said, ‘Wow, that’s funny because he asked for you.’ I said, ‘really? I’ll be right there,'” Tyson concluded.

The exchange revealed that Jackson had not intended any disrespect at all. In fact, he had remembered Tyson and wanted to reconnect.

For Tyson, the episode became a lesson in perception and pride. A brief moment in a crowded arena turned into years of resentment, only to be undone by a simple clarification.
