Raul Jimenez will wear the black headguard throughout the 2026 World Cup this summer.
Jimenez lined up for Mexico in their World Cup opener against South Africa wearing the same headguard he has used for the past five years.
It is likely that the forward will have to wear it for the rest of his career due to an incident that took place in 2019.

Why does Raul Jimenez wear a custom headband?
The Mexican has to wear the headband after suffering a career-threatening injury while playing for Wolverhampton Wanderers against Arsenal in a Premier League clash.
A clash of heads between Jimenez and David Luiz saw the forward go down at the Emirates Stadium, leaving him unconscious.
Test results revealed that he had fractured his skull and had suffered a brain injury that could’ve been life-threatening.
He was sidelined eight months before returning to action for Wolves in August 2021. Jimenez scored his first goal post-injury in September 2021, posting on social media after the game: “This goal is not celebrated by me alone, it is celebrated by my family, all my team-mates, the doctors, physios, and all the people who have always supported me and never doubted that I would come back stronger.”
Since then, he has gone on to play for Fulham and has represented his national team over 40 times.
After the World Cup has finished he will return to Wolves after agreeing a deal with the recently-relegated side following the end of his contract at Fulham.
