With Everton suddenly becoming front-runners for the French young sensation why should Niang turn down the Champions league teams to join a team chasing Europe?
He has been one of the transfer rumour regulars this summer and there has now been a surprise twist in the M’Baye Niang transfer saga. After Arsenal’s interest waned whilst others stalled over transfer fees it appears Everton have used some of the Jack Rodwell money to go straight in and meet Caen’s asking price for the French youth international.
The powerful young forward however has offers from some extremely powerful and wealthy teams and would surely make more money with a move to another club yet he is expected to go and check out the Everton training site, meet David Moyes and seriously consider the deal this week.
So why would he turn down AC Milan, Manchester United, Tottenham, Arsenal and Manchester City for Everton?
First of all, two words, game time.
This is a player who has been a first teamer this previous season and going from that to reserve football and loan deals isn’t something that will appeal to him. Everton currently only have Nikica Jelavic as a recognised out and out striker so therefore Niang has a much lower degree of competition for top quality game time that will undoubtedly improve his overall game.
Let us also not forget that despite recent mediocrity Everton Football Club have a rich and powerful history. David Moyes scoffed at claims Everton were a small club in relation to Manchester City a few years ago, and yes financially City have a sizeable advantage on The Toffees but in terms of history and fanbase City could never claim to be a bigger club then Everton.
Everton however are not challenging for titles or European silverware, another great disadvantage in the pursuit of one of the world’s hottest talents but Niang is only 17 years old. The chance to play in the Champions League and win titles will come, with Everton or not, but the chance to be amongst the first team squad most weeks allows for essential development against some of the best defenders in the world that will help him to achieve these goals.
Everton have French speakers in the team to help him settle, Magaye Gueye especially, who is 22 years old and of a similar background both personally and sportingly, could act as a real mentor for the young starlet.
It would be a real coup for Everton to steal this player from under the noses of the teams that have preyed on their financial insecurity in the past. The big guns won’t lose any sleep over it of course but it would be a real boost for Everton Football Club to sign a player who was chased by the teams who pried away Rooney, Rodwell, Lescott, Arteta and Pienaar from Goodison and it could also be the best choice for Niang’s progression and eventual success in his career.
