Matheus Cunha is taking in his first season at Manchester United, but the Brazilian forward has a clear aim of bringing the club back to its former glory.
It’s not been the fastest start to 2025/26 for Manchester United, but they’ve now gone five games without defeat and look to be finding some consistency.
With 20 players away on international duty this month, United will want to hit the ground running again when they face Everton at Old Trafford.
Their last match ended in a 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur, with Matthijs de Ligt scoring a late equaliser. The result extended United’s unbeaten run under Ruben Amorim, marking a new high for him as head coach.
New signings like Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha have quickly adapted and are already contributing to that run of form.
Cunha only has one goal so far this season, but his overall impact has been noticeable even if he seemed frustrated after being subbed off on Saturday.

Cunha and Casemiro have both been called up to the Brazil squad by Carlo Ancelotti for their upcoming international friendlies against Senegal and Tunisia.
Ruben Amorim will no doubt be keeping a close eye on their workloads during the break, especially with Casemiro now playing a more central role in United’s plans. Meanwhile, Cunha is still finding his feet at Old Trafford and building relationships within the squad.
Brazil will face Senegal and Tunisia in two friendly matches, with Amorim likely to be cautious of Cunha and Casemiro getting injured or playing too many minutes.
Cunha spoke about what it means to him to play for Manchester United, outlining his goal to help return the club back to the top.
“Being at Manchester United right now is something that I’m so grateful for,” Cunha said, as quoted by Hayters TV.
The 25-year-old then spoke about how impactful it has been playing regularly for Brazil alongside Casemiro this season and praised his teammate’s abilities.

Cunha is 26 years old, but his standout moment came in 2021 when he helped Brazil win gold at the Tokyo Olympics.
He scored three goals in five appearances during that Olympic run. His first senior goal for Brazil came earlier this year, finding the net against Argentina in a World Cup qualifier. Despite his goal, Brazil lost 4-1 to the reigning champions.
