The Watford manager has been linked with the vacant position at Everton.
Everton are yet to appoint a permanent successor to Ronald Koeman as manager and it appears that the club are still interested in bringing Watford’s Marco Silva to Goodison Park, according to reports in the Standard.
Silva has received much praise for the work that he has done so far in his first season as Watford manager, with the Hornets currently in eighth place in the Premier League having played some dynamic football.
Although he was unable to prevent Hull City from suffering relegation to the Championship last campaign, Silva’s managerial qualities were still clear to see and it is completely understandable that Everton are interested in appointing the 40-year-old. He is an ambitious young coach who relishes his team playing creative football.
At present, however, there is no real reason for Silva to consider leaving Watford, who will be hopeful of securing a top half finish in the Premier League this season.
For now Silva is best off continuing to earn plaudits at Watford, which could eventually lead to him being offered a job at a bigger club.
If Silva was to ensure that Watford can perform consistently for the remainder of the campaign then it would see his reputation enhanced further still. Though rescuing Everton would be an achievement, there is a risk factor there just three points off the relegation zone – but should he push Watford into that top ten position, where they are now, his status will be rightly elevated.
After such a short stay at Hull, it will be intriguing to see how Silva fares over a longer period and, despite Watford’s reputation for perpetual change with regards to players and managers, the 40-year-old can bring some stability to Vicarage Road before perhaps being offered an inviting opportunity elsewhere eventually.
