Luigi Dall’Igna admits Marc Marquez’s 2025 Season was unexpected
Ducati knew exactly what they were getting when they signed Marc Marquez in 2025, but even then, he still surprised the team.
After a season with Gresini, the Spaniard pushed hard for a spot with the factory team. He wanted to get back to his best after a tough run of injuries at Honda and was confident Ducati was his best chance to do it.
Heading into 2025, many expected Marquez and teammate Francesco Bagnaia to battle for the championship. But it didn’t play out that way. Marquez took control early, winning 25 races across both Grands Prix and Sprints, and secured his seventh MotoGP title in Japan.
Dall’Igna explained:
Marquez also fit into the team quickly. Before he’d even started, he already knew everyone’s name at Ducati. Over time, he became a central figure in the garage.
Davide Tardozzi: Marc Marquez gives Ducati directions without even speaking

Marquez brought more to Ducati than just his talent on the track. Off it, he played a key role in helping the team understand how to support Bagnaia, who was struggling to adapt to the GP25.
Tardozzi spoke about Marquez’s influence, explaining that his presence alone often did the job. The team manager pointed out how Marquez could communicate with engineers without even needing words.
He told El Periodico: “If a rider wants to win, if he wants to be champion, if he wants to take his brand, his team, to the top of the podium, he must not only ride well, be brave, tenacious, take risks, be decisive, he must be the leader of the project.
“And Marc often exercises that leadership without speaking. Marc enters the pits after a practice session or race and his team just with a look understands him.”
Marquez brings calm and confidence to Ducati, says Tardozzi
Marquez is expected to remain at Ducati, with reports of a new two-year deal signed during the team’s 2026 presentation in Madonna di Campiglio. Tardozzi described the 32-year-old as a breath of fresh air for the factory squad.
“Absolutely, I definitely believe that,” he said. “He’s brought a breath of fresh air, a different way of looking at races, of planning and executing them.
“And above all, he brings tremendous serenity and calm, especially at times when everyone has problems and doubts, which are always there, even when things are going well.
“It’s in those moments that his personality, his smile, and the way he analyses difficult situations allow Ducati, the team, everyone to resolve the problems that arise with greater skill and speed.”
