Why Manchester United should forget about hiring Mauricio Pochettino

The Tottenham Hotspur manager is on the verge of something great at White Hart Lane, so why would he move on?

According to a recent report from the Sun, Manchester United have spoken to representatives of Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino about the prospect of replacing Louis van Gaal at the end of the season.

That would come as no surprise given the ongoing pressure on the Dutchman and Pochettino’s superb job at Spurs. However, the Argentine would be wise to stay exactly where he is…and let’s face it, he probably will.

Tottenham are on the up; a side full of exciting young talent that has the potential to grow into one of the best teams not just in England but in Europe.

In Dele Alli they have a superstar in the making but the 19-year-old is far from the only gem, with Harry Kane, Eric Dier, Josh Onomah and Cameron Carter-Vickers all set for greatness in time.

United are a club that has lost its identity under van Gaal – a side whose fans desperately want to see rediscover their past swagger but one that with every passing season becomes a new and depressingly ordinary alternative.

Of course United will turn things around. Just like Tottenham they have some wonderful young players with Anthony Martial and Luke Shaw two of the very best young players in their positions in world football.

But Pochettino is building something brilliant at White Hart Lane and his project is already reaping rich rewards.

Why would he leave that to start again at Old Trafford when Tottenham are fast becoming one of the new forces in English football?

In truth Pochettino is the manager United should have gone for when Sir Alex Ferguson left. But they didn’t and they only have themselves to blame for that.
