Liverpool are taking on Manchester City today in a feisty clash which has seen Andy Robertson booed by the home supporters.
The Liverpool No.26 was targeted as the Reds took on the Citizens at the Etihad Stadium, but why was he on the receiving end of boos? Let’s take a look…
Why Manchester City fans booed Liverpool No.26 Andy Robertson
Well, Robertson was booed by Manchester City fans due to his involvement in a war of words with Rodri during the international break.
The Manchester City No.16 suffered a 2-0 defeat to the Liverpool defender as Scotland surprisingly triumphed in a UEFA EURO 2024 qualifier at Hampden Park on Tuesday 28th March.
After the 90 minutes had ended, Rodri called Scotland’s playing style “rubbish” and accused Robertson’s side of feigning injury during the heated clash.
The Spain international is quoted by Sky Sports as saying: “It’s the way they play, but for me it’s rubbish, always wasting time, provoking you, always they fall. For me, this is not football.”
After hearing those comments, Robertson hit back.
Speaking to ViaPlay Sports, the Scotland international said: “Yeah look, I think they were going down a little bit easily, we were trying to say that.
“I don’t think we crossed the line. They were, especially in the first half, rolling about a wee bit much but they use their experience and they got a couple of us booked which is fair enough to them.”

The pair appeared to take their war of words into today’s clash at the Etihad Stadium, with Robertson booed by the Manchester City fans after leaving a late challenge in on Rodri shortly after Simon Hooper got the game underway.
Clearly, the Manchester City supporters were backing their man, although it can’t be denied that his comments were nothing short of childish in the wake of a famous victory for Scotland – there are more than one ways to win a game.
