Why making Van Persie see out his contract is best for Arsenal

Arsenal fan Asim Mohammed tells us why it is best for Arsenal that they hold onto their captain for one more season at least.

Its been more than a year now and the Robin Van Persie contract situation is still looming large over Arsenal.

Wenger should be furious and burning inside as each one of his hand crafted footballers turns a blind on the policy he created.

A policy which had them at the as the most important stakeholders, a policy which with their trust could have had them in the history book alongside the legends like Bergkamp, Henry, Pires, etc, and could have added more stories to Gunners glories like the Invincibles.

Like most Gooners I’m hurt deeply by the irresponsible actions by yet another Arsenal captain. And would love to see a quick action over it and go into to new season facing new challenges with lesser worries unlike the last season.

While most Gooners desperately want RVP to be shown exit or want him to buy his contract out and move to yet another classless club, I would want Wenger to make RVP stay at the club and NOT offer him a better improved contact but make him see his contract out.

Clubs are reluctant to pay anything more than 10million for a forward after his best season to date. And honestly I don’t expect Van Persie to be doing any better next season, he is in danger of being a shadow of his own form from the season just gone.

And for all you know midway through next season he’ll suffer one of his trademark injuries. And then it will be interesting to see how many clubs would want to sign him then.

Well what is in it for Arsenal?

We have time and again lost kids we have groomed to clubs who rely heavily on their bank account rather than their own class or a system, a long-term policy.

With RVP being forced to see his contract out this could send a strong message and ensure no more Van Persie’s, Fabregas’ or Nasri’s are created from Arsenal’s ranks anymore.

Do you agree? Or should Arsenal sell him as soon as possible?
