Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing RedBull Salzburg wonderkid Luka Sucic – a player that has been compared to Luka Modric. Such a move might throw a spanner in the works as Leeds eye Brenden Aaronson.
Sucic, 19, has broken into the Salzburg side this season and become a regular fixture – scoring seven goals in 37 games. Already a Croatia international, Sucic is being targeted by Liverpool among other clubs.
German newspaper Bild report as such, stating that Liverpool are trying to bring the midfielder to Anfield. Such a move that may strike a dagger in the heart of Leeds’ long-winded pursuit of USA international Aaronson.
Sucic has been playing as a central midfielder, or an attacking midfielder, in his 37 appearances this season. Salzburg are a selling club, they have also shown ambition in the last six months – as Leeds tried to sign Aaronson.
The Athletic say Leeds saw £15m and £20m bids rejected for Aaronson – as Salzburg wanted to keep him for their Champions League game against Bayern. They wanted their best players to stand a chance of winning.
Leeds retain an interest. They are expected to move again in the summer, with the Bayern chase and Champions League exit in the past. However, Liverpool signing Sucic might just end any chances of signing Aaronson.
As stated, Salzburg are a selling club but their ambition is growing. They would hardly sell both Sucic and Aaronson, so if Liverpool do sign Sucic – it ends any chance Leeds have of securing Aaronson. Time will tell.
But for now, if Liverpool do secure a move for Sucic – Leeds might have to look elsewhere, until at least, Salzburg can bring in a replacement for Sucic with the money spent to sign him. Aaronson is said to be keen on a move.
