Borussia Monchengladbach’s Bundesliga star Matthias Ginter is reportedly a target for Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal – but what about Liverpool?

With Liverpool enduring something of a defensive injury crisis of late, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joe Gomez and Dejan Lovren spending time on the sidelines, The Sun reports that Jurgen Klopp has already made it clear that he wants a number of new signings to reinforce a paper-thin backline in the summer transfer window.

The identity of Klopp’s targets, however, are yet to be revealed. But one player who he should be looking at is Matthias Ginter.

According to Sky Sports, the Borussia Monchengladbach defender is already a target for two of Liverpool’s Premier League rivals – Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.

But Ginter, a German international who was part of their 2014 World Cup winning squad, is a player Klopp knows better than most.

After all, it was the charismatic coach who handed Ginter his big break five years ago, bringing him to Borussia Dortmund after a fine spell at Freiburg. He was hardly a regular starter under Klopp in 2014/15, making just 14 Bundesliga appearances, but the current Liverpool boss obviously felt that Ginter had a lot of talent.

Having matured impressively at Gladbach and blessed with the technical ability to play out effectively from the back, Ginter really should be on Klopp’s radar as he looks to bring defenders to Anfield.
