Leeds United fans have been up in arms about Weston McKennie today as the American’s friend causes controversy at Elland Road.

The United States international moved to Elland Road on loan from Juventus in January, but has failed to impress across his 13 Premier League appearances so far.

Now, McKennie will surely be having words with those close to him, as Diego Mendoza – a friend of the American’s based on social media images – takes aim at Leeds.

Why Leeds United fans are upset with Weston McKennie

Well, McKennie has actually done no wrong in this situation, but Leeds fans are still unhappy with him through association to the root of the issue.

This morning, Mendoza hosted a Twitter Space – a feature which allows the host to speak live on Twitter while others tune in to listen. Unfortunately, it was not recorded.

McKennie’s pal proceeded to deliver some unbelievable lines, taking a pop at Marc Roca while also saying that “putting in effort isn’t really his style” when some listeners questioned the Juventus loanee’s work rate.

As aforesaid, the Twitter Space sadly was not recorded, but just a simple search of “Diego Leeds” or “McKennie Leeds” into the Twitter search bar will deliver a whole host of baffled supporters who couldn’t believe what they heard.

Well, there is one recording which you can see here at your own discretion – although we are unable to quote it due to the language used.

For what it’s worth, Mendoza has previously discussed his relationship with McKennie on the ChumChat YouTube channel, so they certainly seem to be close.

With a hugely significant relegation six-pointer against Leicester City at Elland Road tonight, this is hardly the best preparation for Leeds and Javi Gracia, to say the least.

Hopefully, McKennie has had words with Mendoza since the Twitter Space ended, as the last thing he needs is more pressure on his shoulders after a tough start to life in Yorkshire.
