Leeds could do with a target man to provide an alternative.

Leeds United needed a close range goal from right-back Stuart Dallas to earn a narrow win over Reading this week.

The nervous victory showed Leeds could do with a target man to give them a different option off the bench.

Top scorer Kemar Roofe, Patrick Bamford and Tyler Roberts all bring different traits to the table, but a more direct striker could become a difference maker in their quest to win promotion.

One potentially available striker to fit the mould is out of favour Watford striker Stefano Okaka.

Okaka signed for Watford for a fee claimed to be £10 million in 2016 and has fallen down the pecking order.

The former Italy international is behind Troy Deeney, Andre Gray, and Isacc Success at Watford and has played just 38 minutes of football all season.

He needs a January exit and Leeds should attempt to bring him in on a loan deal to provide Marcelo Bielsa with an alternative.

Roofe, Bamford and Roberts are the future for Leeds, and they just need a short term boost from an experienced forward.

A loan for 29-year-old Okaka fits the bill.

The former Roma forward scored 17 times for Anderlecht in 2015/16 to earn his Watford move, and he has gone onto score five times for the Hornets.

He has never really been able to establish himself as first choice at Vicarage Road and needs a change of scenery.

Dropping down a division to play a bit part role in Leeds’ promotion quest may be ideal for all parties.
