Sold by Leeds, Ronaldo Vieira can’t seem to get going at Sampdoria

Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa made the surprise decision to sell midfielder Ronaldo Vieira in the summer.

The England under-21 international has had a torrid time at Sampdoria since switching to Italy in a £6 million deal and Leeds should consider trying to bring him back on a loan deal.

Vieira has not played a single minute since December 1. He has only 178 minutes in Serie A to his name this season.

Upon the resumption of Serie A at the weekend, Vieira was once again an unused substitute in a 3-3 draw with Fiorentina.

Fresh options

A loan deal would be beneficial to Vieira to help him get back to paying more regularly. Sampdoria should consider it, to protect their investment by helping the midfielder develop and stop his transfer value plummeting if they decide to sell him in the summer.

For Leeds it would make a lot of sense as well. The Whites are searching for a replacement for Samu Saiz, and bringing in Vieira would free up Mateusz Klich to take the Spaniard’s role.

Vieira could play in the attacking role himself, or Kalvin Phillips could play further forward if Bielsa determines Klich is not the man.

It would be unusual for Bielsa to re-sign a player he sold, but Vieira is a unique case.

Considering Vieira’s fruitless spell in Italy where he is not showing signs of breaking through, Leeds would be remiss not to enquire about a loan deal to help their promotion campaign.
