Lando Norris has stretched his lead at the top of the 2025 F1 drivers’ standings to its widest margin yet, following a flawless weekend at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.

His advantage over McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri now stands at 24 points after Norris swept both the Sprint and main race in Brazil. It marked his first double victory, and both came from pole position.

Norris edged Andrea Kimi Antonelli by just 0.845 seconds in Saturday’s Sprint, then built a more comfortable 10.388-second gap over the same rival in Sunday’s Grand Prix. Antonelli’s second place held off Max Verstappen for his best result so far.

On the other side of the garage, it was a tougher outing for Piastri, who crashed out of the Sprint before finishing fifth in the Grand Prix. A 10-second penalty cost him what would likely have been a second-place finish and extended his run to three consecutive fifth places.

Lando Norris growing tired of being booed after Mexico and Brazil wins

Norris had an impressive weekend on track in Brazil, but his success was overshadowed by the reaction from fans at Interlagos. He was booed immediately after his Sprint win and again during the podium ceremony for the Grand Prix.

It wasn’t the first time Norris has been met with boos this season. He faced a similar reaction after winning the Mexico City Grand Prix, with many attributing it to McLaren’s use of team orders in Italy back in September.

Blick now reports that Norris is growing ‘fed up’ with being jeered on the podium. The publication also notes that he has received some ‘nasty’ comments from fans, particularly as his title fight with Piastri continues to heat up.

What Lando Norris has said about being booed after winning races

Many believe the boos are a response to how McLaren handled team orders during the Italian Grand Prix, when Piastri was told to return second place to Norris. Piastri had jumped ahead after a faster pit stop, despite McLaren’s earlier assurance that Norris would remain in front if he allowed Piastri to pit first.

The crowd reaction isn’t directly aimed at Norris himself, but more so at McLaren. Even so, it seems the jeers have started to get under his skin. After both incidents in Mexico and Brazil, Norris tried to play down the situation when asked about it.

After hearing the boos grow louder in Mexico, he said during his post-race interviews: “I’m happy. I’m focused on myself, I keep my head down, I ignore all of this and it’s working at the moment. So, I’m happy.”

Norris took a similar approach after Sunday’s race in Sao Paulo GP saying: “Just ignore everyone that talks c— about you! Just focus on yourself.”

This isn’t new territory for him either. Back in 2024 before Silverstone when Verstappen was booed following their clash in Austria, Norris told fans: “No boos. Max is a lovely guy.”
