Why Lacazette could be the easiest deal Wenger does this summer

Arsenal could take advantage of a breakdown in talks over a new Lyon contract for Alexandre Lacazette.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger could be about to receive a huge boost if he’s still interested in signing Lyon forward Alexandre Lacazette.

The talented young 23-year-old attacker is reportedly asking for too much money in a new deal from the Ligue One side, which could leave the French club more open to doing a deal for him.

Lacazette’s current wage of roughly €20,000 per month is a fraction of what some of Arsenal’s first team stars earn and while it may not seem a great deal, it’s huge for Lyon.

The side has suffered very recent financial problems, which has prompted the sale of key players such as Hugo Lloris to Tottenham Hotspur.

A report from French source Le Progres suggests that the dispute between Lacazette and Lyon is purely over wage demands and that’s where Wenger can step in and complete a very simple deal.

In short, Arsenal are in a strong financial position and have the ability to blow Lyon out of the water with a decent personal offer to the player.

Arsenal’s financial strength has been well documented and with a cash reserve of a reported £120 million, Lyon won’t be able to get close to any competitive offer the Gunners put to Lacazette.

Arsene Wenger seems very determined to add a back up, lower profile striker to his squad ahead of the new season.

It will be frustrating for fans as there have been calls for a heavyweight, high profile striker this summer but the Frenchman looks set to show a great deal of faith to current forward Olivier Giroud.

What Arsenal’s attack has lacked is extreme pace, which is something that Lacazette possesses so there is a good chance Wenger is monitoring his situation in France.

He’s also a versatile player and can play wide midfield positions, which will also allow Wenger the luxury of being able to move Theo Walcott or Lukas Podolski forward into a centre forward role.

Lacazette is admirably showing Lyon plenty of respect by talking with them over a new deal, but if Arsenal flex those financial muscles, they could easily do a deal and unfortunately for Lyon, there’s not a lot they can do about it.
