Tottenham Hotspur have struggled to find a second striker as cover for Harry Kane.

Tottenham Hotspur’s search for a striker seems to have been never ending. In recent times, Spurs have tried a number of different options up-front.

However, after a series of unsuccessful attempts to find a striker – Mauricio Pochettino’s attention has now turned towards Atletico Madrid striker Kevin Gameiro (Daily Mirror).

Gameiro being on Tottenham’s wishlist indicates a change in policy, with Pochettino now seemingly determined to get it right.

Spurs’ move for Vincent Janssen last summer was always going to be a gamble, and Pochettino has always attempted to bring in young players who he feels can be developed.

This has been widely been successful so far, but finding some cover for Harry Kane has been difficult.

And Tottenham’s decision to move for Gameiro could turn out to be the ideal transfer for the North London side.

Gameiro is proven quality, having scored prolifically at Paris Sant Germain, Sevilla and Atletico Madrid.

The 29-year-old has netted nine goals in 15 starts for Madrid, and Spurs would be buying a player ready to step into their first-team – rather than purchasing a youngster, who needs time to develop.

Having another option to use up-front with Kane could prove to be a difference maker, as their lack of a second striker has been a problem this season.

Although Spurs have put up some sort of title fight, Pochettino’s side are still 10 points behind league leaders Chelsea – and if they are to close that gap next season, they will need to improve the quality of their squad in the summer transfer window.
