Jeff Stelling was left baffled by what he saw at Molineux earlier today as Wolves suffered a 4-2 defeat to Leeds.

What’s the story?

Well, the Sky Sports Soccer Saturday was shocked after Jonny flew into a strong challenge on Luke Ayling, but it was not the ugly nature of the tackle which had Stelling scratching his head.

In fact, it was the length of time Michael Salisbury took to dismiss the Spain international.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Stelling exclaimed: “Michael Salisbury is taking his time. He’s taking a long, long time. Surely this is going to be a red card? Why is he taking so long?! He’s looked at it six, seven, eight times and still has not made up his mind. He still looks dubious!”

Eventually, Salisbury rightly dismissed Jonny for his woeful challenge on Ayling despite initially believing it was only worthy of a yellow card.

It was a gruesome moment from the Wolves No.19 which could have left the Leeds No.2 with a broken leg, and it was truly bizarre to see Salisbury take so long to make a decision.

Of course, we all want the officials to be 100% sure, but it was obvious even after one glance that Jonny should have seen red – let alone eight checks as Stelling claims.

Leeds showed grit against Wolves

Leeds will return to Yorkshire tonight full of belief that they can avoid relegation under Javi Gracia.

To go 3-0 up away from home in a relegation six-pointer takes some doing, and when things got a bit nervy after goals from Jonny and Matheus Cunha made it 3-2 at Molineux, Leeds dug deep to record a 4-2 win.

It was a hugely impressive performance, and also a much needed victory seeing as Arsenal are next up for Leeds.

Once the Gunners are out of the way, two more relegation six-pointers await as Leeds take on Nottingham Forest and then Crystal Palace, both at Elland Road.

After today, the Whites should be oozing with confidence going into those games.
