Wilfried Zaha was linked with Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal earlier this summer, but it seems that the Gunners will not be able to sign the forward now.

Arsenal linked with Wilfried Zaha

90min reported in May that Arsenal want(ed) to sign Wilfried Zaha in the summer transfer window.

The report claimed that the Gunners had made contact with Zaha’s camp regarding a potential move on a free transfer.

90min added that Arsenal “know” that Zaha “is someone who could easily slot in straight away.”

The Guardian reported in April that Arsenal, along with Chelsea, Bayern Munich, AS Roma, Marseille and Paris Saint-Germain, had “expressed interest in signing Zaha on a free”.

Zaha became a free agent after his contract with Crystal Palace ran out at the end of June.

This is not the first time that the former Manchester United winger was linked with a move to Arsenal.

In May 2020, former Arsenal head coach Unai Emery (now at Aston Villa) told The Guardian that he wanted to sign Zaha in the summer of 2019, but the club decided to bring in Nicolas Pepe from Lille instead.

Jamie O’Hara shocked by Zaha’s decision regarding Galatasaray

However, it seems that Zaha is on his way to Galatasaray now, meaning that Arsenal will not sign the forward this summer.

Galatasaray have agreed a three-year contract with the Ivory Coast international forward.

Zaha has been posing in Galatasaray colours.

Galatasaray won 2022–23 Süper Lig and could play in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League next season.

Former Tottenham Hotspur player and talkSPORT pundit Jamie O’Hara is shocked by Zaha’s decision.

O’Hara said on talkSPORT (6:28am, July 24 2023): “That to me is one of the most crazy moves I think I have ever seen.

“Why would you go and sign for Galatasaray?

“Why would you leave the Premier League when you are a free transfer and you could have gone and signed for (anyone else)?”
