Charly Musonda has not featured at all in Celtic’s last five league matches.
Brendan Rodgers’ decision not to use Charly Musonda for Celtic again last night is nothing short of baffling.
Musonda was brought to Celtic on loan from Chelsea in the January transfer window, but he has barely been given a chance to impress in recent times.
The attacking midfielder put in a brilliant display off the substitutes’ bench against Zenit St Petersburg in the Europa League, but since then he has barely featured.
Musonda has not been seen in any of Celtic’s last five matches, and it is difficult to see what the reason for bringing him to Parkhead was at this point.
Celtic were drawing 0-0 with Dundee last night, yet Rodgers didn’t think Musonda was the man to unlock Neil McCann’s defence.
Rodgers turned to Olivier Ntcham, Odsonne Edouard and Leigh Griffiths instead of Musonda, with the Belgian left on the bench again.
Musonda must now have some questions over whether joining Celtic was the right move in January, with time running out for him to make an impact this term.
The Bhoys have a maximum of eight games remaining in their season, and unless Musonda somehow turns things around, his move to Glasgow threatens to be a waste of time.
Of course, Musonda will still have another season to impress – but if he cannot break into Celtic’s team with the league title seemingly wrapped up, then question marks have to be asked over if he’ll be able to do so at the start of next campaign.
And Musonda could already require a big turn around in fortunes if his move to Parkhead is to be a success.
