Well, the 34-year-old unfortunately suffered a thigh injury just before the start of the World Cup.

When Christopher Nkunku also suffered an untimely injury, Randal Kolo Muani was called up in his place, so the lack of a replacement for the Real Madrid talisman was certainly intriguing.

Technically, Benzema is actually able to play in the 2022 World Cup final for France against Argentina this Sunday.
According to Mundo Deportivo in Spain, the striker has recovered from his thigh injury, and Real Madrid will give him permission to fly to Qatar for Sunday’s World Cup final.
However, while Benzema is officially eligible given the fact he was never officially removed from the squad, it doesn’t seem as if Deschamps has any intention of using him judging by his blunt response to the question in a conference.
As you can see, the 54-year-old seemed rather annoyed when asked if Benzema would return.
