Peterborough have dismissed claims of £3m for Jack Marriott but interested clubs Hull and Leeds should be prepared to pay far more.

Hull City and Leeds United are strongly linked with a move for Peterborough United striker Jack Marriott, with a fee of £3m being quoted by the Mirror.

However, Posh owner Darragh MacAnthony quickly moved on Twitter to deny that the club would sell Marriott for such a small amount after an impressive season so far.

The 23-year-old has scored 23 goals in 36 appearances in all competitions for Peterborough in 2017/18, including a brace against Aston Villa – another side thought to be interested – during the 3-1 FA Cup third round victory over the weekend.

In fact, the only English player who can compete with Marriott’s scoring record this campaign is Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane; whose 26 strikes in 27 games marks another brilliant year for the 24-year-old.

Yet the former Luton Town attacker’s ratio of a goal every 1.57 matches is still nothing to be sniffed at and is why Hull and Leeds should be prepared to pay far more than £3m for him following MacAnthony’s comments.

For the Whites in particular, their difficulty finding a reliable number nine this term is arguably what has hindered them maintaining a genuine push for the automatic promotion places in the Championship.
