A trio of Tottenham figures were nominated for the Premier League’s monthly awards, but the Spurs Twitter team nearly committed a faux pas in relation to one of stars.

Tottenham Hotspur have seen a trio of their figures recognised by the Premier League’s monthly awards panel, with boss Mauricio Pochettino nominated for the manager award and midfield duo Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen up for the player version.

But a mix up on the Spurs Twitter account saw only Alli and Pochettino originally celebrated by the North London club.

Luckily, Tottenham were quick to cover their minor mishap, and it was a pretty smart save as I’m sure you’ll agree. Eriksen himself thanked the account for the sneaky compliment that quickly papered over the cracks of the Dane’s initial absence.

It’s no surprise to see both Eriksen and Dele Alli nominated for the Player of the Month award for December, with the England man assisting once and scoring three times in the month. Alli may be nominated for January too, after scoring four times in the first two games of the year.

Eriksen arguably had the better December, assisting twice and scoring four times. He too has carried that form into 2017, providing both crosses for Alli in the massive win over Chelsea in midweek.

But it is good to see that both club and player have a sense of humour after the Spurs social media team’s mishap – who knows how Yaya Toure would have reacted.

Pochettino will be up against Jose Mourinho, Jurgen Klopp and Antonio Conte, while Dele and Eriksen come up against Alexis Sanchez, Diego Costa, Adam Lallana, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Gary Cahill and Paul Pogba.
