With Garry Monk doing such an exceptional job at Leeds United, it’s time to look at why they are such an unusual fit.
Throughout his career both on the pitch and in management, Garry Monk has seemingly conducted himself in the appropriate manner. Whether that was dealing with a volatile player or the media, the Englishman always seemed to have the right mentality for the sport.
So why is this relationship with Leeds working so well? This is a club who are so brash and hardened after years of misuse that they seemed beyond repair. They have one of the most intimidating and passionate sets of fans in the country, and you would expect their saviour to come from a cocky, stern and ferocious type of manager. Someone with a personality more like Ronald Koeman than Chris Hughton.

But low and behold, here is Garry Monk. So many people thought it was a mistake for the guy to go to Elland Road so soon after his Swansea departure, but the 37-year-old has allowed his overall quality to shine through on a big stage.
Nobody would have given Monk a chance to succeed, but he really has proven that possessing calmness and a natural ability as the man in charge is more important than reputation. Having a key game plan and sticking to it is vital is so difficult is such a fickle modern day period, but somehow Monk has managed it and long may it continue.
