Arsenal are closing in on a move for Dani Ceballos, BBC Sport’s David Ornstein reports.

The Gunners are set to sign Ceballos from Real Madrid on loan.

But the catch is, the Gunners have no option to buy as part of the deal, as Marca report.

That’s why claims gloating Arsenal have beaten Tottenham to Ceballos are misguided.

Tottenham’s interest in Ceballos was well reported. Spanish newspaper AS claimed at one stage Spurs were in pole position to sign the Spaniard.

The Express report that Mauricio Pochettino refused to sanction a move for Ceballos if a loan switch did not contain a purchase option as part of the agreement.

The report stated Pochettino saw no value in developing a player for another team, at the cost of his own players.

Ceballos is a very good signing for Arsenal. He replaces Aaron Ramsey, just for a season, and allows them to spend the funds they do have, in other areas, before revisiting midfield next summer.

He may even make Spurs jealous in the short term.

But to dress his signing up as Arsenal one-upping Tottenham is a little wide of the mark.
