Tottenham Hotspur have allegedly made a late bid to sign the Swansea City striker.

According to Goal.com, Tottenham Hotsour have matched Chelsea’s £15million bid for Swansea City forward Fernando Llorente, and if Spurs can beat their London rivals to the Spaniard it would be a superb piece of late business.

It is no secret that Tottenham need another striker to ease the pressure on Harry Kane and Heung-min Son, and Llorente’s record since arriving at the Liberty Stadium means he would be the ideal solution.

Deadline day has historically seen some duff deals, with Tottenham’s move for Moussa Sissoko this time last year a case in point, but if Mauricio Pochettino welcomed Llorente into his squad it would be one of those left-field moves that makes perfect sense on reflection and immediately strengthens his options.

Llorente may be 32, but he still has a few good years left in him, with his playing style akin to the type of strikers that are still bagging goals in their mid-30s.

Kane could also learn from him, with Tottenham finally having a quality senior striker to work alongside the young forward, rather than putting all their faith in a man who will go through lean patches despite his habit of excelling as the campaign goes on.

The final throes of the transfer window often seen panic buys and over inflated fees. However a £15million move for an international striker who could ease Tottenham’s Wembley woes and add between 10 and 15 goals to their league total would go down a storm.

Time is running out to get a deal over the line, but Llorente is an achievable, cut-price target with the skills Tottenham need.
