Felix Auger-Aliassime has shared his view on who he believes holds the title of the greatest tennis player of all time.
Auger-Aliassime’s exit came after he was forced to retire from his opening-round match against Nuno Borges due to cramping.
Even with the setback, he remained positive and posted an encouraging message to his fans on social media.
Since then, Auger-Aliassime has accepted a wildcard entry into the ATP 250 event in Montpellier. While there, he spoke about Djokovic following Alcaraz’s win over him in Melbourne.
Felix Auger-Aliassime gives his verdict on whether Novak Djokovic is the GOAT

Auger-Aliassime, who is the defending champion in Montpellier, spoke to the media ahead of his opening round match at this year’s event.
During his pre-tournament press conference, he was asked about Novak Djokovic, who fell short of a 25th major title in Melbourne.
Even though Djokovic didn’t get over the line, Auger-Aliassime still sees him as the greatest ever and highlighted what stands out most to him about the Serbian star.
“He’s the best player of all time,” said Auger-Aliassime. “What’s impressive about him isn’t just his level of play, but his resilience. Coming back after defeats, preparing, waiting for the next Grand Slam for months.
“…His enduring passion for the sport, his ability to stay fit and motivated, is an example for all of us. He didn’t go all the way [at AO], but he’s a truly great example.”
Felix Auger-Aliassime vs Novak Djokovic head-to-head
Even with his strong words for Djokovic, Auger-Aliassime hasn’t actually faced the 24-time Grand Slam winner all that often.
Their most recent meeting was back in 2022, when Auger-Aliassime came out on top at the Laver Cup. Before that, Djokovic had taken their first encounter in the quarter-finals of the Italian Open.
Their head-to-head currently stands at one win each, and both matches have come on hard courts. So far, they haven’t crossed paths at a Grand Slam or even in a best-of-five format.
Their next possible meeting could be at the Qatar Open, but only if both reach the final—a draw that also includes Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.
But before looking ahead to Doha, Auger-Aliassime’s immediate focus is on defending his title in Montpellier.
As the top seed in Montpellier, he starts with a bye into the second round and will face either Hamad Medjedovic or Stan Wawrinka, who is set to retire soon.
