The ex Barcelona player may well end up bringing more to the Blues team than Chelsea legend Lampard.

Cesc Fabregas is coming to Chelsea to replace arguably their greatest ever player.

The boots of Frank Lampard are pretty hard to fill, but luckily for Chelsea fans, a quick look at the statistics of the Spaniard show that the former Arsenal and Barcelona player is more than capable of easing the loss of the Blues’ record goalscorer.

Due to turn 36-years-old later this month, Lampard has nevertheless maintained a superb level of fitness even at this late stage of his playing career.

Looking at his last five years of football is to see some of the best football he played in his career, with his 2009-10 season the year that saw him score more goals than any other campaign in his career.

Traditionally, Fabregas’ last five years should be leading up to his peak, while Lampard’s would be winding down from his. Below we look at what they brought to their team’s over this last half a decade, leaving some interesting conclusions about Fabregas’ qualities.

Fabregas netted 70 times across his two clubs, but provided an astonishing 93 assists to his teammates, meaning he had a hand in 163 goals across five years/223 games. It leaves him with an average of 32.6 goals that he scores/assists a season, or contributing a goal/assist every 1.37 games (just better than 3 times in 4 games).

It’s proof that not only can Fabregas bring an impressive amount of goals from midfield, he is also vastly superior to Lampard in terms of the amount of goals he sets up for those around him.
