Why were Everton fined more than Liverpool? Some have asked after the Football Association punished both the Toffees and the Reds.
Everton and Liverpool have been fined by the FA after what they describe as a “mass confrontation” between both sets of players at Anfield, as Jürgen Klopp recorded a 2-0 win over Sean Dyche on Monday 13th February.
Interestingly, Everton have been fined £40,000, whereas Liverpool have been told to pay just £25,000 in comparison, leading many to wonder why the punishments are different.
So, why were Everton fined more than Liverpool? Let’s take a look…
Why were Everton fined more than Liverpool?
Well, it is simply to do with the fact Everton have already been found guilty of a similar offence this season – as detailed by The Times.
As seen on the FA’s official website, the Toffees were fined £20,000 after “failing to ensure that their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion” during the 3-0 win over Crystal Palace back in October.

Therefore, due to the fact Everton have now breached FA Rule E20.1 for a second time this season, they have been fined more than Liverpool, who had previously behaved appropriately before the Merseyside derby.
The “mass confrontation” at Anfield actually appeared to be fizzling out before things escalated.
It was Jordan Pickford who initiated the clash when he shoved Andrew Robertson, although after the Scotland international simply laughed it off, the England international followed as things looked to be calming.
However, Conor Coady then came charging in to confront Robertson, which is when more players got involved and things truly kicked off.
In truth, a Merseyside derby is always going to be heated – especially with both sides far from where they want to be in the table right now – so we hope FA charges do not suck the passion out of these derbies in future.
